following the olympics in style

This Olympics-inspired headpiece is awesome (and also an easy DIY project)! Have you been following the games? I've been giggling over some funny articles and videos on the web (i.e. Aly Raisman's hilarious parents and Ten Reasons Why Ryan Lochte is America's Sexiest Douchebag). I'm also obsessed with Gabby Douglas, along with the rest of America. Her P&G sponsored "Raising an Olympian" video is super moving...

I also love reading all about the Athlete's Village, from ESPN's coverage on its sexy side to photos of exactly where they live (looks like college!)

golden globe favorites

Let's talk about last night's Golden Globes, which I had a ton of fun watching (and tweeting about with my twitter friends of course!). There were so many great moments -- pretty dresses, funny speeches, and a wonderful camaraderie and appreciation for film and television. Here are a few of my favorites Golden Globe memories...

1. My favorite gowns - so colorful!
Kyra Sedgwick in Emilio Pucci, January Jones in Versace, and Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani Privé

2. Favorite Speeches...

Chris Colfer's anti-bullying speech (Best Supporting Actor in TV in Series)
Claire Dane's emotional speech (Best Actress in Mini-Series/TV Movie)
Robert Downey Jr's hilarious speech (Presenter)
Annette Benning's classy speech (Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy)
Natalie Portman's endearing & kind of awkward speech (Best Actress - Drama)

3. Glee and The Social Network for the win!!!

4. Robert Downey Jr. being downright sexy
.... with his lucky wife Susan

5. Oh, and this stylish Chrysler commercial which aired during break

Any other favorite memories, my sweet friends?

I love Tina Fey... and Liz Lemon!

"I want someone who will be monogamous and nice to his mother. And I want someone who likes musicals, but knows to just shut his mouth when I’m watching 'Lost.' And I want someone who thinks being really into cars is lame, and strip clubs are gross. I want someone who will actually empty the dishwasher instead of just taking out forks as needed - like I do. I want someone with clean hands and feet and beefy forearms, like a damned Disney prince. And I want him to genuinely like me. Even when I’m old. And that’s what I want."

amazing design show

I usually multi-task with ease, but when it comes to television shows, I'm all about full-on monogamy -- one new program at a time! This season, I'm obsessed with 9 By Design, the new Bravo show featuring Cortney and Robert Novogratz, who buy Manhattan real estate, reconstruct, redesign, and then sell again. Oh, did I mention they have seven kids!? I've watched all the episodes so far and still can't get enough.

It's the most entertaining, inspiring, and visually appetizing thing I've seen on TV all season. What a thrilling life they lead! (Not to mention, Cortney is my hero. Word.)

tv crush

Seriously, this show is my new addiction. (Okay, I may have a teeny crush on both of the main characters, but that's besides the point.) I mean, the amalgamation of New York City, entrepreneurship (Ben and Cam try to start their own denim line = uh-mazing), a fantastic cast, and the "raw" photograph-style cinematography?

I'm totally hooked! Have you started watching yet? Get on it!

(I don't think the teaser does the show justice, but what can you do.)

"I'm all verklempt!"

Last night, I had this strange impulse to watch one of my favorite SNL skits from the 90's, Coffee Talk with Linda Richman, featuring Mike Myers, Madonna, and Rosanne. Never fails to crack me up (especially the unplanned ending)! Love, love.

I know the quality kind of sucks, but it's worth it, I promise

money dramas

... Makes for a good show! (I think)

In my entrepreneurship class last semester, we watched a couple episodes of "Dragon's Den," a BBC series about a group of vicious angel investors from various industries who judge the elevator pitches of entrepreneurial hopefuls. Most of the time, they rip the ideas apart (great entertaining stuff), but sometimes, they'll invest their own money in a promising venture.

On the treadmill tonight (I love watching TV at the gym!), I learned ABC is producing an American version of the show called "Shark Tank." I doubt it'll be as good as its British counterpart -- no accent! Nonetheless, I hope this show is here to stay. People need to start thinking about alternative careers and taking action! Would you watch this? (Or youtube?)

hansel and gretel

I watched this commercial on the treadmill earlier and couldn't resist sharing. It's so sweet, and reminds me of how colorful and vast NYC can seem at first. And I love the tale of Hansel and Gretel -- candy houses anyone?! I have to say, the production side of marketing does seem mighty attractive right now...

PS: This Starburst commercial was kinda funny too

perfume ads...

Are usually so amazing! And I've seen a lot because I was actually in a perfume branding competition last year! Here's a commercial for Chanel No. 5, featuring Audrey Tautou. The colors and cinematography are stunning, and Audrey is the most beautiful woman ever! I wish I was French...

a do or a don't?

Sometimes things grow on you -- the more you're exposed to it, the more you like it. For me, it's wine, twizzlers and Reese Witherspoon's Oscar's dress by Rodarte. At first glance, I hated her gown's abstract indecisiveness. Was it structured or flowy? But now, I just... can't stop staring at it. And after two days of deliberation, she's suddenly (unconventionally) stunning to me!

What do you guys think? Is her Rodarte dress (and unique look) a do or a don't?

Oscars and etcetera

(photo via flickr)

Somebody get me a cupcake. I'm exhausted after six hours (from 6pm to midnight) of Oscars watching and wine drinking. But it was a great time, and Hugh Jackman was quite an entertaining host. And yay to Slumdog Millionaire and Kate Winslet! I have lots to say about the Oscars, but I think the Observer's commentary is pretty accurate. Hope you all had a delightful Oscars night!

girl crushes and lovely looks

I have a girl crush on the three ladies of "Lipstick Jungle" - love their sassy attitudes, super-cool high-powered jobs (producer, magazine editor-in-chief, and fashion designer), and jaw-droppingly gorgeous outfits. I've watched (conveniently through hulu) and loved every single episode, and am praying that "Lipstick Jungle" is here to stay for a long, long time!

My favorite character and style-muse is Victory Ford, aka Lindsay Price. I'm totally jealous of her wardrobe - it's eccentric and filled with designer labels, experimental and most of all, fun fun fun! She wears a wide range of outfits that cater to both professional and creative sides of her career. And, if you ever notice her accessories (and shoes!), they're much more intricate than her colleagues' and completely steal the show!

"The Dholak Bangle by Rosena Sammi ($500), is inspired by the shape of the dholak, a North Indian hand drum." See what I mean?

And to continue the celebration (or rumination) of Black Friday:

Victory always has very chic black nails. I finally gave in two weeks ago and painted my nails black too :)
