a sartorial little film

I really adore this video that captures Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist in his element. Though I've met Scott a few years back when he spoke at NYU, I still really enjoy learning more about him! This film showcases Scott's perception of his "visual life", his thoughts on his body of work, and my favorite, Scott in action, photographing his lucky real-people models. We also get to see how entirely humble and polite he is, which to me, makes him a gem in the fashion world.

city chic

Oh how I love that the weather in NYC was forgivingly warm today. Instead of bundling in my thickest knit scarves and wool jackets, I wore my maroon beanie and light navy jacket. It was all very much ta-da, all done! I love winter fashion.

PS: Tomorrow, I'm going to go and finally use my awesome Groupon deal -- $25 for $50 worth of American Apparel. Shhweet! Not yet a Groupon member? Here ya go!

mary poppins meets nutty professor

This is how I want to dress. Almost a year later, I still obsess over this quirky shot by the Sartorialist -- the eccentric shabby-chic look is soooo cozy and real. Being comfortable in our clothes can be much too underrated sometimes, don't you think? (And holy moly that bag!)

primarily, poetically...

Red, yellow, and blue -- I see you.

And I'd like to take a collection
of pretty pictures & primary
colors, bead them in my scarves,
tangle them in my hair, blot my eyes
with their light and love, take a knife &
fork and gobble them up pixel by sheen,
make sweet rhythm to their colorful beats,
their one-shot tales, their two-dimensional
frames, their three-dimensional lives...

sartorially inspired

Remember this photo from The Sartorialist about two weeks ago? I was so in love with her boots that I combed through all the comments and finally found them at Surface To Air, a very cool high-end boutique (and creative studio).

Sigh. I really do have a weakness for platform wedge booties.

floor length gowns (in the daytime!)

Would you wear them? They seem to be all the rage now. How brave, don't you think? I might with some killer platform heels!

the white shirt

I have about four, and have enthusiastically incorporated them into my go-to "uniform." I just love the way I feel with a crisp shirt and some shades: fresh, professional, and classic. And they go with practically everything! (Photo by The Sartorialist.)

PS: I spent the weekend in Berlin, thus the lack of recent posts! Will update on the trip soon. xoxo

patch love

I am inexplicably drawn to this carefree look, via The Sartorialist. She's got that "I'm-not-trying-at-all" chicness down pat. And those patchy jeans are beautiful! (I even like the Eliza Doolittle shoes...)

camera envy

I'm heading over to Best Buy to pick up a Canon SD780 (because I'm an idiot and got sand in my old powershot... why are cameras so delicate?!). But what I really want is a Canon EOS 5D, aka, the camera The Sartorialist uses. Oh well, I need to be practical, right?

Um!!!

"'I'm pretty good at sex. And pretty good at picture taking. That's about it.' -- Sex machine/photog Scott 'the Sartorialist' Schuman." (Twitter via Refinery 29)

Men are so cocky (in addition to being funny and adorable) ... maybe we should ask his girlfriend, Garance!

PS: I've met Scott before!

AHH!

These are the freaking black leather wedge boots that I've been looking for!!! And talking about for the longest time! (See here and here.) Where can I find you, pretty boots?

PS: Will you be hitting up the Memorial Day sales tomorrow?

darling

I love this look -- so chic. And her hair is so cute! I haven't had short hair in so long, I really want to give it a try!

relaxed and perfect

(Photo via the Sartorialist)

I need to find those ankle boots. Chunky but tall heels = comfy and fashionable at the same time. Also, I can't bring any stilettos to Prague because it's full of cobblestoned streets. Any recommendations on comfy leather boots with a hidden heel (like this) or other kind of sturdy heel?

confident in paris

I love the way this French woman wears her clothes -- such devil-may-care confidence! I'm picturing her with a swagger-walk and a gravelly voice. Yes, I have an overactive imagination, ha! She just looks like such a tough girl and a cool person to know!

trendy in the city

Some of my style aspirations, depicted by the Sartorialist's February posts:

1. a bold collared coat. I would mix and match vintage accessories (like her belt) for a cultured look.

2. a tweed a-line skirt (with a bold collared coat!). I love the flexibility in this look, from sophisticated schoolgirl to modern day Mary Poppins!

3. long, wide-legged trousers. One of the best silhouettes. Put on your highest heels to elegantly lengthen your legs.

4. metal-studded accessories (except for bracelets). I would definitely wear these awesome booties with simple, neutral toned clothes, like below, to make them pop!

elegance

Two posts in one night! I'm thinking fashion because while blogging, I'm intermittently writing my paper on LVMH, the parent company of Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Pucci, Donna Karan, and many other luxury brands... and the research is taking forever!

I'd rather admire this elegant lady I saw in the Sartorialist. Her high waisted pants are so chic (and make me want to buy a pair for myself), and the bold necklace with the muted gray of her cashmere turtleneck is just so striking! I also love the mis-match of her brown shoes and black belt - effortless elegance follows no rules.

leading industrymen

I was lucky enough to attend two speaker events yesterday featuring two very distinguished gentlemen: Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, and Scott Schuman, aka the Sartorialist. It was especially exciting for me because I'm interested in both advertising and fashion. It was fascinating to hear about their experiences, from what they've learned through past mistakes to what they're doing now. Makes me wonder what kind of career path I'll lead...

The Sartorialist event at NYU was very crowded, not surprisingly. But I was pleasantly surprised about was how likeable he was. Scott was very candid and generous with answering questions, very genuine, and had a wonderful personality.

Quiet Chic

I like this "quiet chic" look a lot.
To buy: black aviators, quiet wedge heels, casual scarves
