the flashlight

illuminates slow joyrides on spines
for pupils of the reflex kind by

pupils of sensory study,
commits to skin’s

contours longer than
hands, memorizes

shape more ardently
than words, & always

manages to turn on.

It knows answers before
they are preconceived --

before they are inquired on a
whim or even imagined in a dream

(of an entanglement of shapes, colors, &
sweaty, fuzzy variations of musculature),

which makes me wonder why sometimes...
things are so much better in the dark.
