tiny fashionistas

The new J.Crew kids catalogue (aka, "Crewcuts") makes me squeal. Such quirky little outfits for tiny bodies! And way to accessorize too! These are my favorites:

pretty alert!

Just some things from around the web today...
I'm "charmed" by these necklaces from Lanvin and Mended Veil
(via
the Pipeline)

Dreamy off-the-shoulder white dress from Nicole Miller (70% off at
Ideeli)

Today feels like a saucy red bag day: Valentino tote, Melie Bianco hobo

PS: Cute boy. Enjoy! xo

thank you, Pia.

"I'm all verklempt!"

Last night, I had this strange impulse to watch one of my favorite SNL skits from the 90's, Coffee Talk with Linda Richman, featuring Mike Myers, Madonna, and Rosanne. Never fails to crack me up (especially the unplanned ending)! Love, love.

I know the quality kind of sucks, but it's worth it, I promise

some things that caught my eye

Ice Storm cardigan via
Anthropologie

J.Crew dulce sequin skirt
(already sold out!)

via Lola

I would probably wear the cardigan and skirt together because I'm a crazy person (who is thirsting for a mojito right now!). And we already established the fact that I think cockiness can be very funny. (And Steve Martin rocks!)

Um!!!

"'I'm pretty good at sex. And pretty good at picture taking. That's about it.' -- Sex machine/photog Scott 'the Sartorialist' Schuman." (Twitter via Refinery 29)

Men are so cocky (in addition to being funny and adorable) ... maybe we should ask his girlfriend, Garance!

PS: I've met Scott before!

I am amused...

Because my kid sister just started a cute little blog, Nerd Chic. Her first post is hilarious. I wish I were as smart and funny when I was 12-years-old. (Yes, no joke. She is 12 and a brilliant writer.)

my wonderful NYC weekend

My dears! I've been AWOL this weekend because I took a mini-vacation in NYC and Long Island, hopping from museum to beach, and hanging out with two old friends from high school. It was so relaxing and fun (although my face is a shade of tomato right now)! I'm exhausted, but here are some pics:

Visited the Met's "Model as Muse" exhibit
... and hung out with statues!
Stayed with my friend George (whose kitchen is rad!)
Went to the beach!!!

You can click here to see all of my pictures from the weekend. I had a blast, how was yours? xoxo

City lover

oh, and I'll reignite with you under my feet,
like a palm to my soles, making me

feel a little soulful when revisiting
your streets, those rechartered grounds

my heart's already traced, like
the cheeks of my future baby's face:

half mine, mostly
yours, dear City.
If there's any love left undoubted,

unquestioned, and beyond ambivalence,
it's for you, and no matter where I am,

your hands will keep holding my feet,
bringing me right back to you.

modern marion

(photos via the pipeline)

Marion Cotillard's looks are so "daring chic," and with a new Dior ad campaign under her belt, she's the newest addition to my style file, which includes Kate Bosworth, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway. Loved La Vie En Rose, too. Bravo, girl.

vacation, staycation!

my own water taxi experience!

I like this Style.com blog post on an NYC "staycation." All three suggestions -- hailing a water cab, chilling in Prospect Park, and hitting the museums -- are wonderful. (I can attest to that!) I'm planning to visit the Met's "Model as Muse" exhibit this Friday, yippee!

money dramas

... Makes for a good show! (I think)

In my entrepreneurship class last semester, we watched a couple episodes of "Dragon's Den," a BBC series about a group of vicious angel investors from various industries who judge the elevator pitches of entrepreneurial hopefuls. Most of the time, they rip the ideas apart (great entertaining stuff), but sometimes, they'll invest their own money in a promising venture.

On the treadmill tonight (I love watching TV at the gym!), I learned ABC is producing an American version of the show called "Shark Tank." I doubt it'll be as good as its British counterpart -- no accent! Nonetheless, I hope this show is here to stay. People need to start thinking about alternative careers and taking action! Would you watch this? (Or youtube?)

lady shoes

(photo via jeffrey campbell)

A coworker today was wearing cute Jeffrey Campbell flats, and I was reminded of these sweet, nude wedges I had admired from way back when. Unlike his other crazy, studded, S&M-y shoes that you can find at Urban Outfitters or Free People, they're sophisticated and ladylike, with a touch of vintage. Darling.

beautiful style blog

I love these black and white portraits from Urban Weeds, a street style blog based in Portland. (My friends Emily and Sydney live there! So jealous.) I've always loved being behind the camera, but I would totally be down to have my own B&W portraits taken someday. Everyone looks so gorgeous, don't you think?

camping

Many times,
I've kissed lightning
without searching
for sockets

in a sunny tent,
from an open door,
on a creaky swing,
seduced by

a smoky, pine scent:
the pheromones
of patchwork
America.

I almost died --
gasping like a
windchime in
a warm storm

devoured by
nature's stings;

yet, I can't help
but bite my own
lips.

sigh. I miss new york

I'll finally be back in Manhattan next weekend... I miss it so. (It's been 11 weeks!) This video feels like home to me:

Via Naomi again. Love her blog.

gulp

Oh cupcakes, how I love thee. RED too! Makes me miss my pretty Magnolia's. (Via Naomi.)

aaaah

I loved the beach. How was your weekend, loves? I'm sporting a pink nose and laughing at all of my new photos. And next week, I get to go again, but to Jones Beach in Long Island! :)

have a sunny weekend

Starting the weekend beach + camping trip in 7 hours!!! Clearly, I have the beach packing down, but my only camping gear so far are these, oops! So excited to relax and (hopefully) get some color. It's supposed to be 80 degrees, yippee! Pics later. xoxo

"with my slip... shown a little"

Regina is so cute and silly. Emily got me hooked on her music last year... I love to listen while driving to/from work. :)

ruffles

I love these delicate tanks from Housing Works, AKA, my favorite NYC thrift store. (Psst, they're only 20 bucks each!) Aren't the ruffles so pretty and artsy?

so beautiful

What do you get when you combine Taylor Swift's "Love Story" with Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" on classical instruments? The amazing arrangement below. Makes me want to get out my violin!!! (More info on the artists here.)

gorgeous gown

(photo via gilt groupe)

Wow. This Mischen gown is stunning. That satin looks luxurious. Makes me wonder when I last wore a gown (um, prom?). What about you? (A graduation gown doesn't count!)

blues

(photo via susannah conway)

I'm feeling overwhelmed and down today. You know those days when your heart feels really heavy, but it also feels hollow? (Contradictory, I know.) I think I need a good, long hug (and I am a strong believer in the power of hugs). Some sleep would work too... But these photos by Susannah Conway are helping me find some peace and calm. So pretty.

Love, love. :)

DIY jewelry

(photo via gilt groupe)

My internship ends August 7th, a date that makes me very nervous. I hate being unemployed and unproductive, even for a short while. What am I going to do for those two weeks before Prague? (Any suggestions?) Hopefully, I'll find some sort of income and keep busy with a creative project. I bought a bunch of ribbon from Michael's last month on a whim. Maybe I'll make some jewelry? I like these Vera Wang necklaces...

POV: dress recycling

Me (in the white blazer) and my friends at a recent semiformal

As a little girl, I loved playing dress-up. Years later, that's still the status quo. But after the high school proms and college formals, I've noticed one alarming theme: I never wear the same dress twice to a big event. (God, I'm a snob!) Do you recycle your dresses? Or do you associate one dress with a particular event like I do, and call it a day? (And the little black dress does not count!)

picture promise

I'm trying to take more interesting pictures this summer, since there are so many beautiful details in our every day (don't ya think?). Check out my Flickr photostream (which I just set up!) for some of my favorite shots.

gasp!

"Shoegasm!" as my friend would say... these Chie Mihara cascading bow platform booties are incredible. So fun!

cherries

I think my blood sugar has gone up x100 because I've been eating so many cherries! They're such a seasonal fruit, so come summertime, I tend to overindulge. (I can't help it, they are oh-so-sweet and tangy!)

I like this guy a lot

Ah, I love Def Jam Poetry. (Click to see some more of Amir Sulaiman.) This performance by Shihan made me teary, but this hilarious "woman to woman" talk cheered me up again. :)

have a relaxing weekend

(photo via lolita)

Good morning, my dears! What are your plans for this weekend? I'm excited to do some quality reading and relaxing by my friend's pool while drinking wine and partaking in the usual girl talk (sweeet!). Some fun links to leave you with:

ooh I love fridays

(photo via lolita)

I'm feeling so inspired and passionate today. Wonderful, sweet people (and pretty blogs) make my heart swell. I'm also dreaming up another blog for my adventures in Prague. Would you be interested in reading about my travels? Still trying to find the perfect name ... any suggestions?

fountain of youth

(photo via b.o.f)

I swear, every year, Madonna looks younger to me. I know she works hard at looking good (and photoshop helps!), but I miss when celebrities used to age naturally and weren't afraid of a few wrinkles. Here she is in the most recent Louis Vuitton ad campaign, looking like a 20-year-old porcelain doll. What do you think -- is cheating the aging process a do or a don't? And I know, I know, I've been super focused on fashion lately... More diverse posts (like poetry) coming up soon, I promise! xoxo

marilyn moment?

(photo via harper's)

Kate Winslet in Harper's Bazaar, August '09 issue. I'm sure this was the scariest pose ever, but to me, she looks so wonderfully free. (And gorgeous!) More pictures from the shoot here.

spectacular blog

(photo via business of fashion -- love it!)

When I interned at WWD, I lived and breathed fashion industry news (free subscription for employees!). In business school, my favorite project was a management analysis of LVMH, aka, the largest luxury holding company in the world. And now, I'm on summer break (neither working in fashion nor taking classes), so I keep momentum with The Business of Fashion, an incredible blog that aggregates all the latest fashion news from WSJ, Financial Times, etc. It's fascinating. Hooray for wonderful websites!

Anna Wintour. 'nuff said.

I am so ready for this documentary on Anna Wintour. The fashion media industry is definitely interesting to work in. (via Joanna)

in a slump

(photo via ffffound!)

Today was one of those days where I felt like all I could do was hang along for the ride. Frustrating. I am in dire need of snuggling in bed for hours with a good book and a latte, but weekdays after work are always so short, don't you think? There's dinner, hitting the gym, chatting with a friend, and then sleep. Maybe we should all go on more weekend holidays (with this lovely weekender bag) to take our mind off of stressful things? I'm looking forward to heading back to visit NYC soon!

here we go again...

(photos via liz claiborne)

I know we just talked about dresses, but I couldn't resist sharing these classic shirt-dresses with you. I've been browsing Liz Claiborne since I saw this sweet pair of sunglasses in InStyle -- and lo and behold! A brand that I had once considered more suitable for my mother actually has some great pieces for me! I just love these cool, fresh looks. Who said dressing for work has to be boring? Feminine + Professional = Perfect.

PS: More shirt-dresses from Toast. xoxo

Pretty skirt. The "v" waistband reminds me of that little dip in our upper lips. I like dresses and skirts with personality!

PS: I love this vintage little number! So cute!

classic with a twist

(photo via garance dore)

This quirky photo makes me happy. And I love the black and white. In fact, I've been wearing this combination for the past few weeks as of late, for example: black dress by John Varvatos for Converse with a thin Hanes white t-shirt. (A new uniform?) Wish I had those Louis Vuitton bunny ears! Ah, simple extravagances!

budding artist

My baby sister Jessica got a digital camera for Christmas, and frankly, I'm amazed by her pictures! She has great instincts and loves to play with negatives, like her shots below. Is a love for art genetic? I'm stunned by how gorgeous these are:

(and she's not quite 12-years-old!!)

the fruits of my cravings

I've been so rushed all day -- heading over to a friend's pool party in 5! With so little time, I went easy and mixed my own grapefruit-berry sparkler, baked some cookies, and called it a day. I'm just relieved I didn't burn the cookies. Phew!

food for the fourth!

(raspberry gin fizz via eat make read)

Happy 4th, my dears! What are you up to today? I'm decked out in color-appropriate gear (red plaid dress worn here by my friend Emily and blue pf flyers!) and looking at recipes, since I promised my mom I would cook/bake every weekend. I started out with corn bread, so I'm thinking this time maybe something with fruit? (We have lots of cherries right now, so delicious!) Too bad mixing drinks isn't considered cooking. That raspberry fizz looks tasty.
